Bring Caroline and Hanna Home

For those of you who don’t already know us, we are a military family living in Fountain, Colorado. Nick is a Flight Paramedic in the United States Army, I am a stay at home mommy, and we have two beautiful daughters, Abbie and Georgia, ages ten and four, and two handsome sons, Ryan and Eli, who are eight and five. As you may have already heard, we are in the process of adopting two daughters from China to complete our family!
Our adoption journey started in early 2014. After nine years of marriage, three children, three duty stations, and three deployments, we finally found ourselves in the position to adopt from China. After a whirlwind nine months, we found ourselves on a plane to Beijing, where our daughter actually picked us up from the airport with her caregivers! Georgia was adopted on November 11, 2014 in Wuhan, China, and although she has been home for only eleven months now, we can’t imagine our life without her. She has transformed from a scared, fragile orphan to a joyful, loving daughter and sister! Georgia has a rare genetic skin condition called epidermolysis bullosa (EB) that is complex and life-threatening. We soon realized that we needed to be near a specialty clinic if she was going to get the care she needed to thrive. So we convinced the Army to move us to Fort Carson in March so we could be near the EB clinic at Colorado Children’s Hospital in Denver, and her care is now going very smoothly.
Nick and I hadn’t really planned on adopting a second time, and certainly not right away, until we saw a photo of another little girl with EB waiting for a family in China. We talked and prayed, and came to this conclusion: we live near an EB clinic, we’re already going to all the appointments, we’ve gotten very good at Georgia’s daily care, so why not add another? We certainly had enough love for another Hoffmann baby, so we dove back into a new home study (our first visit with the social worker was even before our household goods had arrived), and we hope to have Hanna safely home by the end of the year! Caroline was just added to our journey in July! She also has EB, is in need of family, and besides, when you have five children, what’s one more? :)
Our last hurdle is meeting the financial demands of three international adoption in two years. Our incomes provide for our family just fine, but we don’t have a lot of extra to spend, certainly not enough to cover $45,000 in adoption expenses over the course of just a year. Nick’s career in the Army demands a great deal of his time, so I have taken on babysitting, making jewelry, organizing yard sales and fundraisers, and coupon cutting and budgeting in general to save as much as we can. However, we are seeing that we still have quite a gap between what we have saved and what we still have to pay, and our friends and family have already contributed what they can. We are traveling in THREE weeks and the amount we are still trying to raise will cover the girls' orphanage fees (which are $5,700 per child!) We hope that you’ll consider helping us bring our sweet Caroline and Hanna home!
