Hippotherapy in Kyiv

Donation protected
We are raising money for the Elena Petrusevich Foundation in Kyiv.

Elena Petrushevich is a remarkable woman. She is the Founder and President of Cameliya, the first centre in Ukraine that provides hippotherapy for children with cerebral palsy and autism - for free. She's been running her unique programme for 20 years without government funding with the help of dedicated pediatricians, neurologists, parents - and volunteers. Today she has 20 horses, once all fierce competitors, now retired and no place to go to otherwise but the meat factory. Thanks to Elena's unique concept of equine pension the horses are not only saved but by working with and helping children who need therapy are given a new meaning in life.

You can read about the benefits of hippotherapy for children with cerebral palsy here and here's an article from Autism Parenting Magazine about why hippotherapy is beneficial for children with autism.

We first heard about Elena and her foundation through IWCK (International Women's Club of Kyiv) as they've been a special initative project of the women's club for many years.****
My 16 year-old daughter is a newly recruited volunteer at Cameliya. Elena, this lovely woman is giving her some invaluable (volunteer) work experience in the summer holidays and is going to show her the ins and outs of hippotherapy. In the meanwhile my daughter is making a documentary film (in Russian with English subtitles) about the Foundation that we will share with you as soon as she's done. Initially it started as a school project but it is slowly growing into something Bigger, something Good. Kamilla has embarked on some serious fundraising - yard sales, bake sales and whatever we will be able to think of. Dream big or don't dream at all....

Thank you for your donations. We will regularly update you about our progress and how the money is used.

I should also add that the foundation did NOT ask us to fundraise for them, they did not ask us for money, they did not ask us for anything, they were just happy to have our interest.  We contacted them and not vice versa.  I am new to this fundraising thing - please do ask questions if you want to before you donate.  Your constructive criticism and ideas are most welcome, too.

*** While our fundraising is not an IWCK project but an independent endeavour, we do owe a big thank you to the women's club for writing about the Foundation in their April newsletter.  We would have never found them otherwise.
