19th Annual Hip-Hop in the Park

Donation protected
Hip-Hop in the Park is an all-day, family-friendly hip-hop event held on Saturday May 2nd, 2015 from 12-5 pm at Peoples Park in Berkeley. The purpose of this event is to promote political awareness, multiculturalism, and inclusiveness through the 5 elements of hip-hop: DJing, MCing, graffiti art, B-boying/B-girling, and Knowledge.

We will have various conscious and local hip-hop artists performing throughout the day. In addition, we will have live graffiti art exhibitions, a dance cypher floor, a children's tent, and vendors along Haste Street. This is always an awesome event, and we have been organizing this since 1996.

In the past, some of our performers were: Souls of Mischief, Elzhi, Dumbfounded, Blue Scholars, Murs, Gift of Gab, Mistah Fab, and Macklemore (when he was first starting out!)

This year we have an amazing lineup, including: Fashawn, Young Gully, Breathless, Magna Carda, BPos, Kensho, and Romski!

This event is, as always, free for the public. And we plan to keep it that way.

This event is organized by the Students for Hip-Hop, a UC Berkeley student organization. We have a very limited budget for this event, and depend on grants and fundraisers in order to make this event free. We urge anyone who has attended Hip-Hop in the Park in the Past, or is attending this year, or who simply wants to help out, to please donate to our fund.

In addition, the response to our event has been overwhelming. We are expecting a record turnout this year and are super excited! But the City of Berkeley and our insurance companies are not as excited about this. We may face last minute security and insurance costs, and we would be so disappointed if we could not cover those costs.

We are hoping to raise $1,000 for this event. Any donation would be extremely appreciated!

For donations over $10, the donor can pick up a 19th Annual Hip-Hop in the Park poster on May 2nd. However, posters are in limited quantity so it's first come first serve!

Please note that the Students for Hip Hop will not sell any posters on the day of the event.

On a side note, we still have spots available for vendors. Please email us at [email redacted] if you are interested!
