Be a Hero for HERO

Hi Friends,

In April of 2014, I had the honor and joy to go to Greensboro, Alabama in partnership with Tom Callos and the Ultimate Black Belt test community to support the incredible work of HERO.

Our group helped in building a house, furthering a community garden project, and working to build out a bike shop. Every one of these projects and more are all happening out of HERO’s home base and under the amazing guidance and support of Pam Dorr.

I watched as Pam so kindly fielded every kind of question imaginable from, “Has the right tub been ordered and the authorization for the incorrect one to be returned?” to “What should I do? Where can I best help?” to “Where’s the mop bucket?” I was amazed at how much she was able to juggle and still keep her kind, smiling demeanor even as she continues to work to help create even more projects to help uplift the marginalized residents and community of Greensboro.

With the experience I have, I noticed that an assistant would make a WORLD of difference not only for Pam, but also for all the myriad projects housed under the HERO umbrella. Towards the end of my time in Alabama, I was sitting next to Pam at a dinner and I asked her how she would feel if I fundraised to get her an assistant. I told her I didn’t want to assume or project but from what I could tell, an assistant truly would move all the projects forward as well as to take some of the load of Pam, so she can be freed to do the things she does best. In her beautiful, kind way, she smiled softly and told me, “Yes. That would be amazing.”

So that is what I am doing now. I am fundraising for a year’s salary for an assistant for Pam Dorr and HERO. Please watch the videos and see what incredible miracles Pam is already helping to create in Greensboro and be a part of helping her take their work there to the next level! We are working to raise $20,000. If we raise more than that, which would be wonderful, it will go towards salary for the following year.

Thank you for being a part of making dreams come true in a little town of Alabama—a place where Martin Luther King Jr. once hid out when his life was in danger. Supporting the work of HERO literally helps his dream remain alive.

*A quick note regarding rewards.

When the campaign is over, I'll reach out to you via email and ask if you want a reward and confirm your shipping address (we can only ship to addresses in the USA. If you do not live in the USA, we'd be happy to ship to a friend's address in the USA.)

I know that some people do not want material goods and would rather that their full donation go towards HERO. This campaign is being supported by the nonprofit I founded, Circle of Life. If you choose to forego your reward, your donation may be tax deductible. For donations of $100 or more, Circle of Life can provide you with a tax acknowledgement letter for your records.
