Help The Hewetts

UPDATE (SEE OTHER UPDATES UNDER UPDATE TAB):

From Katie:
We can't thank everyone enough for the help and support this holiday season. It has been a tough road so far with a trip to our home state of Maine for Andrew's Celebration of Life, burial, and ash scattering, then returning to Arizona and returning to work part time for me. We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support. So many have helped us financially, physically, and spiritually since Andrew's sickness began and after his death. We have received many monetary donations both on here and off, and support in other ways that is simply priceless. As for returning to Maine to live, the kids and I have yet to make a solid decision. We moved to Tucson to pursue our dreams of homeschooling freedom with lots of other families, sunny year round weather, and plenty of opportunities. We didn't have a chance to establish a huge support network here due to the immediate diagnosis, but the "family" we have established is truly amazing...making such a huge decision isn't something we should do Immediately, as much as we enjoyed spending time with our family and lifelong friends In Maine when we were there. The kids are doing okay. We keep each other going and are trying to stay involved with things and people that bring us happiness. They have lost the most important man in their lives, and we talk about him often. We thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts. We will make it day by day, though some days are harder than others. Some days are downright awful. Some are okay. Each day is a reminder that life is precious and we should love those who treat us right and forget about those who don't (or can't). Merry Christmas!

Please don't over look,

I have a co-worker named Katie Hewett. I want to tell you her story but before I do let me start off by saying she is by far one of the most positive, kind, and loving wife, mom, and friend that I know. She always has a smile on her face! When asked how everything is going with her husband she smiles and says we take it day-by-day and hope for one more. I admire how brave she is for her husband, family, and friends. I can't imagine how difficult it is for her to watch her husband battle cancer, work and raise three children. Everyone who has met Katie and knows her story applauds the strength that she has shown. Which is why I want to tell you their story...

The Hewett family moved to get a fresh start and get away from the harsh winters of Maine so what better place to do that then sunny Tucson. Taking a chance on life and starting over they moved and quickly settled in. They secured jobs, a apartment in the northwest side of Tucson and were enjoying life. Sadly four months after moving to Tucson, Andrew was diagnosed with Melanoma. Andrew was forced to quit his job because of the numerous surgeries, scans, hospitalizations, feeding tubes, and drug induced colitis. The doctors found the Melanoma in Andrew's lymph nodes and are still waiting on the test results from the spots on his lungs. The Hewetts were faced with the horrifying fact that Andrew's cancer is terminal and they dont' know how much time has has left. The news was not only devastating and shocking but also presented them with another problem. They are here in Tucson and their main support system of family and friends is in Maine. Here’s where it gets tricky, with only Katie working and very little money coming in from disability they do not have the money, nor will they be able to come up with the money feasibly, to move back to Maine on their own. Just when you think things couldn't get worse, they do. Andrew recently was rushed to the hospital for a infection he got in his foot that spread to the bone. luckily he has been stable and is reacting well to the anti-biotics but is still not out of the woods.

I could not fathom having to go thru something like this, watching my husband die and having my kids watch as he deteriorates. It’s terrifying and I would want to be near my family so I didn't feel so alone and so he didn't feel so alone. They reached out to a foundation that grants last wishes, in help moving home but have been turned down. This really is they're last wish as a family...I know this is a daunting task for any one person but I hear of people helping others in need and doing kind deeds, so together I think we can make a difference that really matters. At this moment I don’t know anyone who is more deserving of some kindness. This family deserves a break, and I pray that they get it before it’s too late.

Let me also just make a note that 100% of all money will go to the Hewetts, it's they're money and no one elses.

thank you :)
