Saving Sea Turtles in Costa Rica!

Donation protected
In the little town of Punta Banco (Costa Rica) the local community re-started a project to save turtles. Not Leonardo, Michelangelo or their other two brothers, but one of the oldest and most endangered creatures in the world; the Lora seaturtle.

After a journey of about 15 years the Lora turtles come to shore in Punta Banco to lay eggs. The turtles return to the beach they were born. A nest typically contains around 100 eggs. Of every 1000 eggs only one turtle makes it back to the beach to lay her own eggs. These low survival rates are influenced by natural causes, but also by human intervention. In Punta Banco, poachers take the eggs and sell them to bars and restaurants.

Turtle Rancho protects the eggs by patrolling the beaches and bringing the eggs to a hatchery where they can come out safely. When the baby turtles come out of their shells they get released on the beach. Here their journey begins so that one day they return to lay their eggs at Punta Banco.

With the aid from the crowdfund, Turtle Rancho is able to build more hatchery's and to purchase materials which help protect the turtles and the eggs, for example: radios,  red lights and proper flash lights. Therefore, every donation helps to save the Ninja Turtles!
