Emergency Vet Bills for Atlas
Donation protected
Three days ago my sister rescued a puppy from the Humane Society. She's wanted a dog of her own for some time and my dad wouldn't let her get one until she was financially and mentally reasy to handle the reaponsibility of a dog. The day finally came, and she named him Atlas. I've honestly never seen my sister so happy and so proud of herself. This puppy has brought so much joy into her life already.
This morning, Lauren has to take Atlas to the emergency vet and we found out that he has Parvo. If you're unfamiliar, Parvovirus is a highly contagious viral disease that attacks the digestive track and can damage the heart. The survival rate is 50%, but the vet said that Atlas has a slightly better chance to to his age (6mo).
Just as background information, Lauren adopted Atlas from the Humane Society, which, ironically, will euthanize animals if they get sick or if they feel that the animal is unadoptable for any reason. The Humane Society is supposed to provide vaccines (they did in my sister's case) to the puppy, including the parvo vaccine, which didn't have an affect on Atlas since he was already infected. This disease can stay in hiding for several days before showing any symptoms. The emergency clinic has notified the shelter of the contamination.
So far, the vet bills have come out to more than $1700. If you feel it in your heart to donate any amount of money to help my sister with the cost of vet bills, that would be incredible. Thoughts and prayers are extremely welcoming also as my sister and Atlas go through this hardship hand and paw.
Update: Lauren went to see Atlas today and he is pretty weak and couldn't lift his head. Once Lauren started talking to him, he started wagging his tail and lifted his head up to see her.
This whole experience has been a whirlwind, especially for my sister. Any help at all is so much appreciated. I will try to keep everyone updated as I can.
Much love,
Steph, Lola,
Lauren and Atlas
