THIS IS HOW IT ALL BEGAN: The friends of Mike Johnson, are reaching out on his behalf to help him get "˜back on his feet' while a common expression, for Mike the meaning is profound. Mike is an expert roller skater, recognized as one of the best there's ever been, and an inspiration in the roller skating community for over 30 years. He is also as kind and generous to others as they come. In addition to skating Mike has been a dedicated Trade Show Technician for Skyline Genesis for 10 years. A very creative and physically demanding job.
On January 15th, 2014 Mike was admitted into the hospital with shortness of breath. He was diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia. After two times in the hospital he was finally released and sent home but was extremely weak. What happened next seemed to come from nowhere. Ultimately, being so weak, Mike was unable to take care of himself after being released and his condition turned critical. He was rushed to the emergency room and admitted to ICU when they discovered his kidneys were failing. After a few days he was transferred to the Progressive Care Unit. He has endured a myriad of tests and more than one blood transfusion.
He is currently stable but not yet well, and he is exceptionally weak and extremely skinny (yes skinnier than he was) due to being bed-ridden for over a month. His rehabilitation will be difficult and take months. Because Mike is a private contractor he did not have insurance in place. Although just a few weeks before he had begun the process through the Market Place.
Mike will need private attention for several months. He is still hospitalized, waiting for a bed in a rehabilitation facility. During this time he will be entirely unable to work and he does not carry disability insurance. He has made no income since January and from the looks of it he will not be able to go back to work for several months. Mike is in absolute need of financial help. Please lend your support in getting Mike back on his feet and wheels. For those that do know him - you know how kind and good spirited he has always been. We included photos and links to videos so that those who don't know Michael can experience his vitality. Not to mention humble and prideful. It is not easy for him to reach out for help. So we are doing it for him. Your support will be an inspiration to him during his recovery. Please share his story with as many people as you can. Ever dollar will count.
