Update:  I want to offer as an alternative to donating on here, you can go to my woodworking website and purchase something there.  This way you will still be helping me earn money, you will give me something to keep me busy, and you will get something in return.  Check it out at www.kansaswood.com

Hello and thanks for reading my story.

I am an Army veteran of Desert Storm and served proudly for 10 years before my physical limitations from injuries sustained in action reached the point I could no longer meet Army requirements.

I suffer from several problems, but my primary problem comes from a lower back injury that continues to worsen even after a four level fusion surgery a few years ago.  I have disabling chronic pain and leg weakness that makes it difficult for me to walk.  I am told there is no further surgery to help me.  Because of the leg weakness I stumble often and fall sometimes.

Now to the issue at hand.  I need to make a bathroom that is accessible to me using a walker or wheel chair.  The bathroom I currently have is small, with a narrow door and shower too small to even fit a shower chair.   Because of the way my home is constructed, it is not possible to simply fix this bathroom.  The only option to make a truely accessible bathroom is to convert an adjacent space currently a laundry room into a bathroom, basically trading spaces between them.  This would require a good bit of concrete cutting for the pipes.

I have gotten a couple estimates for the project for between 15-18,000, but if any of you have done remodeling before you know it almost always costs more.  I am not trying to build the Taj Mahal here, just a bathroom that will work for me in a home I plan to stay in for many years to come.  I would be happy to accept and use gently used fixtures like a shower enclosure, sink and whirlpool therapy tub.  Also pipe, tile etc would be welcomed.

I have applied with the Veterans administration for assistance with this project but so far no luck.  It is possible I can get a small grant I have found, so if I can get at least half of what I'm looking for here, I can probably do the project.

It was suggested I try this so thought I would give it a shot.  I know there is a way and if God wishes it to happen, it will.  He gives me the strength to continue every day and I know I still have a purpose.  I try to make people happy with the woodworking projects I do which gives me a reason to get up every morning.  Thank you again for reading my story, I'm not much of a writer but I hope it got the point across.

May God bless you and yours.
