Need Cancer Treatments

Donation protected
Hi Everyone;
I'm Sue Wood.  I need your help.

I've spent my entire life working within international development for The U.N., USAID, The African Development Bank and inter-governmental agencies.   My career has been wonderful.  It has allowed me to see the world and to support my mother & brother on a modest income.

I returned to my hometown (Lincoln, Nebraska) last May - after being away for 35 years and was rushed to the emergency room with severe chest pains the night I arrived.  I learned I have Stage 4 Breast Cancer .
The cancer has spread to the bones, which means it is not curable.   The only thing we could do last May was enroll me in a blind clinical trial for a new drug and try to stop the spread of the cancer with an aromatase inhibitor.

Thanks to all of my friends who sent contributions to Go Fund Me, I was able to purchase an insurance policy and start the treatments.   Your love and support literally saved my life last summer.  For that I cannot think of any words that would express my heartfelt thanks.

The clinical trial ended last September.  The cancer in my bones has slowed down which is fantastic, but there is a tumor in my adrenal gland.  This meant we had to change direction completely.  I'm now taking a type of immunotherapy drug called Palbociclib.  I also take chemotherapy and steroid injections each month.

Unfortunately my insurance does not cover the cost of Palbociclib.  This drug costs over $14 thousand dollars for a 30 day supply.  My insurance company also does not cover the all the cost of chemotherapy - or  the cost of monthly lab tests to check my blood levels.   My monthly medical bill for medicine and insurance is over $16,000.   Unfortunately the State of Nebraska is extremely conservative and does not to accept Federal funds for Medicaid.   I'm living on modest social security income now, but I have a mountain of medical debt.   I've also been told by the healthcare marketplace that my insurance policy will not be available next year and that my premiums will double.

In spite of all this, I am feeling great now and am eager to get back work. I want to be productive, pay all my bills and contribute to the community, but I'm in a Catch-22 situation.  Lincoln, Nebraska a very small town and whilst I have a fantastic set of professional skills, graduate degrees, a solid work background and a stellar work ethic: it's difficult to find a job in a small town: particularly a person like me, who has spent their entire career overseas.   It's a sad situation, but there you have it.

If you could help me get through this difficult time and make a contribution to my medical fund I would greatly appreciate it.   As I said, l feel really good and I want to get back to work, so please know I will pay it forward.  I promise.

Also, if you make a $500 contribution I will send you a small gift.    Go Fund Me is a secure format.   The money you contribute goes to me within 24 hours.    Also, you can set up modest monthly contributions if you are so inclined.

Whether you can offer financial help  now or not, I would like to remind all of you that the most important thing we have in life is time.   Spend it joyfully.   Be kind to yourself.   Be kind to others.   Take risks.  See the world.  Look for laughter and beauty.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Love,
~Sue Wood
