The SpiritWing Dance Ensemble 17th Annual Tribute to Katherine Dunham this year honors the Katherine Dunham Children's Workshop.
Please help us to bring Dunham Certified Master Instructor, Ruby Streate to the stage for a lecture and dance presentation from one of Ms. Dunham's finest legacies...the young dancers. We are in need of additional funds for travel expenses, hotel and meals to make this a special Birthday Celebration of Ms. Dunham's International contribution to the arts and give the hard working students the thrill of performing in our great city of Chicago. Please help to make this program a reality.
The first presentation at the Harold Washington Library, June 22nd at 12:15PM will feature The Children's Workshop, Rare film footage of Dunham Company, Special guests include, Canadian recording artist, Kaia Kater, D.C. Tap dancer, Katharine Manor and Afro-Modern work by Chicago Event Co-Director, Sadira Muhammad.

We will follow up with Master Class and discussion taught by Ruby Streate, TBA $15.
Ruby Streate, has been a member of the Dunham legacy since 1969. She is currently the Director of Dance at the Katherine Dunham Centers for the Arts and Humanities (KDCAH). Her career with Miss Dunham began under the tutelage of Dunham Company members Ural Wilson and Lenwood Morris. Ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and ethnic (Haitian, Senegalese, Brazilian and Cuban) dance genres were included in her studies at Miss Dunham’s Performing Arts Training Center. Passionate about Dunham Technique, she concentrated her studies on every facet of the Dunham legend. Miss Dunham, thoroughly impressed with her expertise, appointed Miss Streate a Master Instructor in Dunham Technique and repository of Dunham choreography.
Special Guest, James Belk, Master Percussionist of authentic Dunham rhythms accompanied classes in Dunham Technique for Miss Dunham and other ethnicities.
