Help for Leah Mendelsohn and Family

As many of you may know, on Saturday, November 3,  Leah Mendelsohn, a third grader at Lloyd Harbor School, was hit by a van on New York Avenue in Huntington.  She is currently in the ICU at Cohen’s Children’s Hospital with injuries to her head, liver and lungs. While the doctors are cautiously optimistic that she will make a full recovery, the road to recovery will be a long one.  Leah will need to remain in the hospital for weeks, possibly months and then have to endure significant rehabilitation.  

Leah is an amazing girl with the brightest personality. She loves to act and recently was in a production of Annie and had a role in the King and I at the Suffolk Y JCC that was debuting the night she was hit by the van. Leah is the oldest sibling to her brother Jack and sister Sara.  She's amazing at taking care of them as only a big sister could. They can't wait for her to be back home.

Many have asked how they can help during this difficult time, whether it be assistance with childcare, housekeeping or anything else the family will need during Leah's recovery.  Her father will be taking a leave from work to be at the hospital 24/7 while Leah is recovering. This will be a drain on them financially. This is why a GoFundMe account has been created -- to help support the Mendelsohns through this trying time.   Any donation, no matter how small, would be much appreciated and can be made anonymously.  

The Mendelsohns are already so grateful and overwhelmed from the outpouring of love and support from their incredible Huntington community and it has brought them great comfort.
