Finding out a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer is never easy. When that loved one turns out to be your 27-year-old son, it will stop your world in an instant. On Friday, January 10, 2020, our son Matt called to give us the news that an endoscopy earlier that morning revealed cancerous tumors developing on the lining of his stomach. At this point, the cancer has not spread to any of his other major organs or tissues and with the proper action, we are optimistic the tumors can be completely removed through surgery, and Matt will bounce back to full strength. The one thing we are certain of is that Matthew will need all our love, support and prayers for a speedy recovery.
On January 17th, Matt will undergo surgery to remove 50%-75% of his stomach, keeping him hospitalized for about a week, followed by post-op treatments and recovery that will keep Matt out of commission for another 4-6 weeks. His mother, Laura, has taken an open-ended trip to Oahu in order to make sure he has the full time care he needs during the initial stages of recovery. We are asking for support from our community in helping Mattman fight this uphill battle. Your financial support will assist in alleviating the extra stress of the financial burden (hospital bills, Dr. visits, prescriptions, treatments, nutrition/supplements, along with other living expenses due to inability to work) Matthew will face as a byproduct of this already tragic situation. We are very aware that not everyone is in a place to support Matthew financially, and if that is the case, we would greatly appreciate it if you could share his story and send some positive energy in his direction. Matt is all about the good vibes, so please feel free to send your best his way.
Anyone who has been fortunate enough to meet or spend time with “Budge,” whether on the baseball field, at the beach, or anywhere in between, has experienced the love and the positivity that radiates from within him. The world is a better place with Matt in it, and although these are scary and challenging times, Matt is meeting this challenge head on with a smile on his face and love in his heart.
