LAS VEGAS, NV - John Hanrahan recently won the Veteran National Champions at the US Open Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas May 7 & 8th. The Veterans division is sanctioned by UWW/ United World Wrestling and allows wrestlers over the age of 35 the opportunity to continue competing in Olympic style wrestling sanctioned by a US Nationals and a World Championship event. Hanrahan who is a former Penn State NCAA All American defeated two-time Champion Petro Petrosyian, en-route to capturing his Freestyle title in Div D at 85kg. Hanrahan was a Double-Crown winner, also capturing the Veteran National Greco Roman title the previous day, with a fall over California's Curtis Nelson in the finals. Hanrahan has qualified to represent the US Team at the upcoming World Championships in Athens Greece, October 11-18. The funds raised in this effort will be utilyzed to defray the travel and lodging expenses in this quest to bring home World gold.
