Haitian Puppies Rescue & Evacuation

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

I recently returned from a volunteer trip to Haiti where I was building an elementary school.  While living in this remote village my friend Jennifer and I became quite attached to the two puppies living with our host family.  Unfortunately, this family does not have the means to care for these dogs and does not treat them as pets. Their mom died and they are quite malnourished.  They got attached to us as well, and as we were leaving on our last day, they were following us off the property!

Since my return I confess I haven't been able to sleep well knowing these dogs are not receiving the affection, food and medical care that we give our pets.  I feel compelled to bring them to the United States so they can have a great life.  This is a costly endeavor but not insurmountable.  I am fortunate to have a Haitian friend who is managing the pickup, purchasing food, coordinating vet visits/vaccinations and the 30 days of pet care necessary before they can be brought to the U.S.  I have also been able to connect with Dr. Kelly Crowdis, an American vet working in Haiti through Christian Missionary Vets who will provide the puppies with a Health Certificate to travel.

I might have underestimated the initial cost of this endeavor and so I've changed the fundraising amount.

The cost for doing what needs to be done to extract and care for the puppies this month including vaccinations is approx $700.  Airfare to the United States will be another $500-$700.  Veterinary visits for neutering, gps chips, and the medical treatment they will need I'm now told can run a couple of thousand dollars!! Yikes...  On top of that there is buying supplies such as a crate for transport, blankets, beds, dog food, toys...oh yeah, and some grooming!  We are talking a deep and thorough shampooing for these little guys.

I know that this is a little bit crazy, but I feel fortunate to live in a country where I am surrounded by fellow animal lovers who are generous and kind-hearted.  This is an occasion where you know exactly where your donation is going.

Any $ that goes above and beyond what is needed for veterinary care and air transport will be spent on buying food, a pen for my parents back yard and creating a doggie bank account to be used solely for their care.

Thank you for love, generosity and friendship!!!

Kristina

ps.  If you have good names to share, I'm all ears :)
