Sara's UC Berkeley Fund

My name is Sara (Ji Hyun), and I'm an undocumented, financially independent student supporting myself and my mother.

In the summer of 2013, I lost my dad to an unexpected stroke. He was the main source of income for our family, including my mom and me. A week after his death, I dived into full-time work as a waitress in the midst of my mourning to support myself and my mother, while also being a full-time student at a community college.

A year later, my dream came true when I was accepted into UC Berkeley as a junior transfer student. Since then, I've completed my junior year, and I continue to work to support myself and my mother.

However, as I prepared to enter my last year of college to obtain my degree, I found out that my financial aid package is $4000 short of what I need. My pay from my job is already barely enough to support myself and my mother, and I do not have $4000 in savings. I've exhausted subsidized loans available to me from UC Berkeley. And as an undocumented student, I am also unable to take out any private loans, leaving me with no options.

I dream of obtaining a college degree and establishing a career for myself in marketing, so I can allow my mother to live comfortably and repay her for everything she's done to raise me, as well as make my dad proud. I'd greatly appreciate any and all donations to help me achieve this dream.
