April 2014:
Blue lights...pulled over by male officers....body search...dark, isolated jail cell...dehumanized....deprived of my civil rights.
I, LeShéa Agnew, NPR-affiliate Broadcast Journalist/Host was charged with misdemeanor cannabis possession (less than 2.5 grams, the equivalent of a "joint") and flagged in the criminal database. The alleged "joint" was never shown and dash cam footage of the arrest was destroyed by the Police Department despite documented requests.
November 2014:
All charges DROPPED by Prosecution just minutes before trial.
Help me uncover and speak out against the injustices and imbalances of our legal system!
Like so many others, I lost my freedom to racial profiling. Treated and branded as a criminal despite a clean record and dedicated service to the community as a trusted voice/reporter.
For nearly a decade, Dr. Maya Angelou, "Grandmother," graciously empowered me to illuminiate the dark injustices plaguing OUR society. Empowerment she shared often as we sat at her kitchen table in Winston-Salem, NC.
As an emerging advocate of Human Rights, I ask you to support this on-going campaign. ALL donations will go directly to start-up costs for travel, promotion, marketing and speaking engagements.
The overall goal - to decriminalize minor offenses across the country through legislation and activism.
