Anti-Porn Book Fund
Hello! My name is Tyler. I'm a part-time student and a full-time father of a three year old son. I work two jobs while my wife goes to school full time in pursuit of her nursing license.
I am an avid gardener and I love to write, especially about those topics with a social justice bent which I have a particular passion for.
One of those issues I am particularly passionate about is feminism, and I have a particular interest in pointing out the socially unhealthy aspects of the currently boundless proliferation of hardcore and often violent pornography available through any high speed internet connection.
As a member of society with a conscience, I see a dangerous and largely unspoken about problem in which a large volume of media is created and consumed - primarily among men - with the central themes of abuse and degredation of women, and the conflation of sex and violence, and sex and power. The conflation of sex and power, by the way, is the same confusion which drives the rapist. And in porn that confusion is openly celebrated - just try and find a pornographic production on the internet today in which the sexualization of power disparities is not heavily emphasized. There are strict and firmly entrenched roles of dominant and submissive performers in any pornographic production you might find nowadays. I have many times heard it convincingly argued that any media is propaganda, and this kind of propaganda is particularly dangerous, especially when one considers that teenagers of today report that the form of sexual education they take most seriously and learn the most from is high speed internet pornography.
As an aspiring author, I woud like to begin writing my first book, in which I confront this problem head-on. I think this book needs to be written, because there are currently few voices in this society who approach the topic of pornography from both a critical and non-religious; liberal perspective. There are even fewer authors or other sources of such information who are male, and I firmly believe more men need to recognize this problem and speak out about it publicly.
