Las Vegas Mom Blogger Shares Her Story of Will & Strength
My husband is my partner, my best friend, my lover, my support, my everything! I can't imagine life without him. This last year has been extremely hard. This will be his 3rd surgery within a year.
My ex-husband was very abusive, mentally, physically & emotionally. He was a heroin, meth addict and always in & out of prison. He would steal from us, leave us for days / weeks and never supported the kids & I. When I was pregnant, I would have bruises up and down my arms, once the Doctors started noticing, he would start beating me in the head so there would be no bruises to show. I use to always ask God why? Why me? What did I do so wrong to deserve this? I thought it was me and that he was punishing me for something I did. After 10 long years, my ex came home after being gone for a week and held a knife to the kids and I. That was it, that was when God gave me the strength to get out. I got a restraining order, a divorce, took the kids and moved to Vegas.
Michael & I dated in our teens; both went our separate ways and through our own lessons and struggles. I had always remained friends with his brother, but never really asked about Michael. Finally after moving to Vegas, I got in touch with Michael, also coming out of his own situation. We dated, got married and here we are today. Now, I know it wasn’t me – it was all God’s timing! The timing could not be any more perfect. If he would have got me out of my situation any sooner or later, or I had waited to contact Michael – we probably would be together today. I love telling our story, it’s still hard for me to believe sometimes – God is so amazing!
In Sept. of 2013 Michael tore a muscle in his shoulder and ended up with surgery in October followed by months of physical therapy. Before he was even able to go back to work, he was hit with Diverticulitis. This is pockets in the colon that form with bacteria. He was extremely inflamed. The abscess was so large and it had connected the bladder to the colon. He had surgery April 28th, with complications and in the hospital for an entire month. Since his release he has been in & out of the hospital - it has been our second home. He is seeing five different Doctors on a consistent basis.
The emotional toll this has taken on us has been tremendous. One could never understand what it is like to be a caregiver until they are one. Michael really struggled with wearing a colostomy bag and not being able to provide for his family. He has gone through severe depression, chronic pain, setbacks and the struggle of not being able to provide for his family.
If you know us, we are not ones to ask for help by any means. Michael is the type of guy that will not let his pride down and ask for anything. He firmly believes that it’s his job to provide no matter what. He is in construction, works hard, is a faithful man of God and under normal circumstances, always provides! As he’s been unable to provide, it’s causing him more stress thinking about how rent, insurance, electricity, water, phones, etc will get paid. We are really struggling right now that it’s come to the point where we have to let our pride down and reach out. Emergencies happen, life takes a turn and we learn to reach out. Any contribution that you are willing to donate to help our family get the stability and rehabilitation that is needed is deeply appreciated. We at the least ask for your prayers and hope this testimony can be helpful to someone who reads it.
