Chi-Chi needs surgery!

Donation protected
Chi-Chi has been my best friend and birdie companion for over 12 years. I've had him since he was a baby and he's such a fun little playful bird to have around. He talks and does tricks, and he even was a little bit of a YouTube superstar for a while. (Here's a video of him playing fetch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDvK4nM2I8w)

But just recently I took Chi-Chi to the vet and found out he has a cancerous tumor near his tail. The surgery to remove the tumor is estimated between $550 and $1200, plus a few hundred dollars could be necessary for radiation therapy afterwards. It is a big expense but I do not want to lose him to this tumor. I couldn't imagine losing my friend who has been with me for so long :( Please donate or share this page to help me reach my goal! Anything helps!!!

This is what my vet told me about the prognosis and the procedure:

"Chi-Chi has a mass on his tail base that resembles cancer such as squamous cell carcinoma or uropygial gland adencarcinoma. For complete resolution, the best chance for success would be amputation of the tail or, alternatively, removal of as much of the tumor as possible and then treating with localized radiation (using a Strontium-90 probe). The most complete results would probably be achieved with amputation of the tail. There are risks with surgery, higher in budgies than with larger birds as our options for life support under anesthesia are limited by the size of the bird. However, if Chi-Chi survives the procedure and we completely remove the cancer, chances are good that it will not return."
