Hello! My name is Yemimah King and I am a senior student at Georgia State University majoring in Psychology. As a college student with the ultimate goal of becoming a Psychologist, I am more than excited to gain and pass along any information that assists future students to achieve their goals in college. Although this is challenging, it is the most fulfilling time of my life!
I chose a career as a Psychologist because the study of the mind and behavior has always been interesting to me. As I move forward along this path, I have been granted the opportunity to study abroad with one of my professors that lectures on African American Psychology. This journey will take me to Tanzania…Africa… the Mother-Land and allow me to explore my senses in an environment that is rich in heritage! I will be gaining a very important practicum that will help me to be a competitive student when applying to graduate schools – in addition to being completely immersed into a rich culture that is so dissimilar from U.S. culture. This experience will assist me in being an exceptional psychologist in my community.
My assignment will be to research the effects of and understand the context of skin bleaching among Tanzanian people. I will walk the same path as many of the enslaved Africans before being forced on the slave ships. I will meet the Massai, an African ethnic group that has maintained its original culture. I will also participate in safaris and get to experience an array of Tanzanian cultural events and much more. This incredible journey can be instrumental to who I am to become.
As I make you aware of what this experience means to my future, I humbly ask for your assistance in making it happen by providing a monetary donation. The cost to study abroad in Tanzania will be a total of $5,500. This price will include Atlanta -Tanzania airfare on scheduled airlines, airport transfers and taxes, all ground transportation, excursions and entrance fees, housing and accommodations, some meals, lectures, and Health/Evacuation/Repatriation insurance. Please support a portion of my future by sponsoring a trip that will give me an experience to carry for a lifetime.
