We at NDLON believe that music is a transformative and powerful tool that brings healing while fighting for social justice.  It is a vehicle by which we raise our voices, express our humanity, and transform our communities.

These musical events, or serenatas we call Chant Down the Walls, bring our community together in song to remind workers, parents, and youth inside the immigration prison that they are not forgotten and that we will continue to fight the current administration's deportation policies. These events also serve to hold lawmakers accountable to their promises to bring justice for immigrants.

The past three weeks have been a success in bringing our Chant Down the Walls message to the migrant detainees in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Downtown LA. We opened up the series with Ana Tijoux (Chile) and Los Jornaleros del Norte (Los Angeles) and last week we had Son del Centro (Santa Ana, CA), with a surprise appearance by Mare Advertencia Lirika all the way from Oaxaca, Mexico and finally, Pachamama Estela and Los Jornaleros Del Norte last week.

We will continue  these concerts, community serenatas through this holiday season so that those inside the detention center are reminded that they are not alone.

Please make a donation toward these concerts and other events that use music as a vehicle for building a critical mass by raising the voice of our immigrant community.
