Hello, my name is Helen Hayes and I am a student at Kern Valley High School. I am working on a project to place AED’s (automated external defibrillator) in the middle schools. My plan is to start with Woodrow Wallace Middle School and then move on to other schools from there. The reason I want to do this is because I was watching the news last spring and a girl from Shafter Middle School named Paula Hernandez died and there was no AED’s on site so I thought of the idea of putting them in our Middle School. A lot of kids in middle school die from heart attacks and if there are AED’s there it may save them. I am asking for donations to help pay for the AED’s. The typical price range for an AED is anywhere from $1,200-2,500. An AED package includes the AED, battery, defibrillation pad(s), carrying case and/or wall cabinet. There is also a battery pack that needs to be replaced every 3 years which cost $200-$300. I would like to purchase the same kind as KVHS has so both schools would be the same. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. If by chance anyone would donate a whole AED I could make a plaque donated by the donator. We have tax ID # from KUSD (Kernville Union School District). Also, I am setting up a GoFundMe account and organizing a Kern Valley Recycle Drive at Thomas Refuse. Thank you for your time and consideration. (This project was approved by the KUSD Board)
