When in Rome

Ciao! My name is Andrea, and I am incredibly proud to call UC Santa Barbara my home. I am currently in my third year studying Studio Art (with an emphasis in painting) and Art History, and I absolutely love the time I've spent here. But, as some of you may already know, beginning in January 2015 I will be making the biggest change in my life- I will be moving to Italy!
The UC system's Education Abroad Program (EAP) has generously provided a way for students to travel and study in many different places around the world. Earlier this year I began to look into the many programs EAP offers, and chose to study at the UC Center Rome in Italy for 6 months! There, I will be taking classes relating to my love of ancient (and modern!) Roman art and actually be on site of all the amazing places I've only read about in my Art History books. Imagine going to class at the Colloseum. Or taking a weekend trip to Pompeii for a school assignment. THAT'S what I will be doing :) I know that seeing all these beautiul places will greatly influence my own art as well, and I'm excited to continue creating art at a local studio space (in the heart of Rome) provided for students and locals alike. This is such an incredible opportunity and I absolutely cannot wait for it to begin!
Through an experience such as this, I know I will gain new insights on various cultures as well as broaden my much too narrow horizons. My wanderlust and dreams of losing myself (or finding who I am) in an unfamiliar place will finally be satiated.
The only drawback to this journey I'll be taking is the cost of travel. I hope to coninue traveling for 3 months after my program ends- backpacking place to place, hopping from France to Germany to the Netherlands to the UK, etc., etc... Thus, the cost of all I hope to do will be too much for my little pocketbook to handle. However, through this platform I hope to raise a little money by giving you things (my art!) in return!!! So, please read on if you want to help me out a little, and gain a little for yourself ;)
