Hello Everyone,
Heather and I had our home destroyed in a tornado on May 27, 2018. We lost everything, our home, our shop, our furnishings, our clothes, you name it, we lost it. We had worked hard to buy this place, we had big dreams of having land in the mountains and this was our dream come true.
We have insurance with replacement cost, however, the cost of construction has far exceeded the policy limits, and the extended limits of the policy. In other words, insurance has paid everything that they are willing to pay. We are still short on funds to finish the rebuild. We did apply for both FEMA and State assistance, however, since we live in a rural area, and very few houses were affected by the storm, a disaster declaration was never made by the state, so FEMA and the State of Wyoming can't help us.
Since the Government won't help us and insurance has paid as much as they are willing to pay, we humbly ask for your help. We would like to raise $100,000 to go towards final construction of our house, shop, and replace some of our furnishings. To break it down, $60,000 is needed for the house and shop. The original plan was to use the existing basement. The county engineer determined that the storm has damaged our basement, and rebuilding on it would cause damage to the new house. There is a building boom going on in Laramie County, WY and costs have skyrocketed. This money will go towards basement construction, and bringing everything up to code for both our home and our shop. Part of this $60,000 is also going towards the slab for the shop foundation, and the electoral, and plumbing code upgrades that are required by the county building department. The other $40,000 is going to replace our furnishings. We will use it to buy appliances, clothes, furniture, dishes, and the other normal day to day things that people use. If you are wondering what happened to the contents money from the insurance policy, we put it towards construction of the home and are still short on funds.
I would also like for you to know that why we are asking for money is because currently, insurance has us living in a hotel as a means of temporary housing. We don't have any room to accept any items as we have no place to store them until the house is ready. Friends, Family, and the American Red Cross have been generous to donate to us the basic necessities to get through daily life while living in the hotel. We are asking now for monetary donations now to finish the rest.
Construction is suppose to wrap up in May. We will need these funds as we go. Heather and I appreciate all of the help, and if we could ever do anything to help anyone, we are willing to.
