Books for Students

I am author Z. C. Bolger, Danny Calloway and the Puzzle House, Ninjabread Man, Realm Keepers, etc.

I was recently invited to speak to the student body of a school in Arizona about one of my books, being an artist, and reaching for one’s goals. I happily accepted the offer and sent over my usual preorder forms for the book I will be speaking about (Danny Calloway and the Puzzle House).

After giving all the students a discount on the purchase price, I would have enough profit left over to just cover my traveling expense (as I live out of state).

But there was a wrench thrown into the plan when only 10 pre-orders, out of the 120+  students, were turned in. I was then informed that the school is in a low-income area and some kids couldn’t afford the book. The teachers would be reading the book aloud to the classes as they wouldn’t have enough copies to go around.

Well, though the profits from 10 sales wouldn’t even cover a tank of gas to get over there, I decided I was still going to go. The students are excited about the book as well as having their first author visit and I didn’t want to deny them that.

But something still stuck in my mind about this situation. I feel there should never be a child who can’t buy a book they want to read. Though I am an author, and I make a living with selling my books, it’s a sad day to me when someone can’t buy it.

This is where GoFundMe comes in. I would like to raise enough money to buy every student at that school, all 120+ of them, a copy of my book and I will happily autograph each one.

I will earn no profit from this project, and if anything is raised above our target, it will go to purchasing books for other schools around the country.

So if you are in a position to help, a small donation can go a long way. For every $5 a child will receive a book.

Shipping is added on top of the above prices, it can be anywhere from $50 - $250 depending on when I can place the order. So help me fill this fast and make it a magical day for the students.  

The day I drive out to Arizona is November 13th.

UPDATE 1: I was just informed that the amount of students I will be talking to is actually between 60 & 70 students due to a full class not partaking. I have updated the goal amount to reflect this.

UPDATE 2: I have received a check for this project in the mail and have updated the goal to reflect this addition.
