Gabi Down- Paralympic Wheelchair Fencer

My name is Gabi Down, I’m 16 years old and from Milton Keynes. I’m a Wheelchair fencer and have been for 5 years.

Wheelchair fencing as a sport have now been told that we are no longer going to receive funding from UK Sport as they don’t feel that as a team we fit the certain criteria that they are looking for. It is now down to each individual fencer to look for possible sponsorships individually. My biggest achievement to date is competing in the London 2012 Paralympics as part of the Epee women’s team event. My world rankings are 14th in foil and 12th in Epee. I’m currently National champion in Foil and Sabre and 2nd in Epee. In April 2013 I won 2 bronze medals in Montreal at a grand prix world cup. I am now in massive need of help with paying to get to competitons and pay for training.
