Perseverance is defined in the dictionary as “steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.” That sums about 19 years that is my life up perfect into a nice concise way.  19 and half years ago I was born in Port-au- Prince, Haiti. My parents fled the political unrest in Haiti and were given temporary status in the US.  We’ve defied the odds as a family as we tried to assimilate into the US.  Our temporary status didn’t prevent me from going to Meadowbrook or Belmont Hill and thriving.

But, my temporary status now presents a huge challenge – I cannot qualify for financial aid for college.  I’ve had to apply as an international student (and got into Suffolk thankfully), but there is no financial aid for me, meaning I have to find a way to pay for 100% of tuition.

I’ve taken a gap year and got a great job at a tech company and have saved every penny I could, but my father lost his job and I became the provider in the family, paying rent, food, and other bills.  All of the money I set aside for college was depleted.

In the midst of that, we lost our apartment, so I am currently I’m sleeping at a couple of friends’ houses on rotation, never knowing which house I am actually going to until I arrive there. I’m not one who likes to ask for help but I really need it.

I need to raise $31,562 to attend Suffolk this fall.  In fact, I need to raise $15,781 by August 1st in order to enroll in the fall. Worst case scenario is to push college back even further and potentially enroll in the winter. To be completely honest with everyone each month I push college back I run the risk of just never going, at some point it will just be a dream that doesn’t make sense to pursue. While perseverance is “the steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success” if delayed long enough success may never be an option.

Could you help me make my college dream come true by donating? I’ll make you proud by working as hard as I have historically to be the first in my family to graduate college.  Please help me make this dream come true!
