Moore Family Recovery Fund

In the span of fourteen days, our family went through some of the most traumatic events, physically and finacially. The event that started the streak of bad luck was the hospitalization of Sherri, the matriarch of the Moore Family. A wound on her left shin turned necrotic, or in layman's terms, it died. The doctor's had done all they could do to try to save it, but it was too far gone. The amputation happened on Tuesday, September 16. Since she had recovered from Adult Respiratory Distress syndrome, and survived, surgery is a high risk endeavor. She made it through the amputation, and was abe to be extubated, something the three of us didn't think could happen.

Fast foward to three days post-op, when she was transferred to a fast-paced rehabilitative care center. Shince Sherri has many medical issues ontop of the amputation, she didn't qualify for the fast-paced center; we didn't know this for a week after her admit date. Due to her physically not able to meet those milestones, her insurance will not cover her time there which totaled 10 days. While dealing with this roadblock, Robert, the patriarch, had fallen ill, himself. His blood pressure was unstable which led to him being admitted into the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. His stay in the hospital lasted for three days, complete with numerous tests and imaging. Thankfully, nothing serious was found on those tests.

The same day Robert was being discharged, Sherri was being discharged at the same time. With the help of a "senior advocate," we were able to find a health center for Sherri that is capabale of rehabilitating her, while also managing her complicated medical issues. This happened on Friday October 3. While meeting Sherri at her new healthcare center, Christine was getting off work. So, Robert and Michael got Sherri settled in, and left to pick Christine up from work, since the family shares one car. On the way to taking Christine home to change into street clothes, we got into a car accident which totaled the car, and caused minor injuries. Robert had a chest wall contusion, Christine recieved a concussion and a knee injury, and Michael was lucky to only get whiplashed.

All of these medical bills are coming in, and are for thousands of dollars. Add in the car, which was a new car, and we are overwhelmed. Michael doesn't have health insurance, and our car insurance is offering only enough to pay a portion of the car. We have no extra money, with Robert and Sherri both being on Social Security and disability meaning we live on a fixed income.

Anything will help our family get back on our feet and provide hope for us that things will get better. At this point, hope is all we can do!
