In 1972, the Lake Theater in Hendricks, Minnesota, closed its doors. It had been open since 1938, spanning years in which classic films like Rebecca, Ben Hur, and The French Connection premiered.
Some 40 years later, a trio of friends and Hendricks residents decided to rehab the theater, opening the doors of the historic theater to a new audience and a new generation of movie-goers.
The three Hendricks natives - Gary Johnson, Jay Nelson, and Ron Rybinski - are working together on this labor of love. Many other Hendricks residents and supporters have lent a hand to make this project a reality. 
This Isn't Your Average Movie Theater
When The Red Barn Theater opens its doors in late 2014, it will not be your average movie theater. In addition to showing current movies, you can expect:
*Live musical performances
*Film festivals
*Classic movie nights
*Gourmet concessions
*A venue for private events
*And much more
So this is more than just a venue for movies. It's a place for residents of a small town to gather and be entertained in a family-friendly environment.

This Is An Expensive Project, And We Need Your Help
Not surprisingly, rehabbing an old movie theater is very expensive. Even though most of the labor is done voluntarily, the supplies alone are proving to be more expensive than previously thought. Theater seats, lumber, cement, electric wiring, plumbing, concession stand equipment, projector, sound equipment, bricks, marquee, and much, much, more.
We would greatly appreciate your financial support, whether your donation is big or small. Can't afford much? We will graciously accept your $10 donation. If you can afford to give more, we would be so grateful.

Where Is Hendricks?
Hendricks is located in southwest Minnesota, just one mile from the South Dakota border. The population of Hendricks is just over 700, but surrounding farms and lake homes increase that number quite a bit.
Hendricks is a small but dynamic town. It has a bustling main street, brewery, several restaurants and stores, museum, beautiful lake and lakeside park, campground, hospital and clinic, and more. The theater will offer something that has been missing in our community: a family-friendly entertainment venue that is open late. A place to go out on a Friday night. A place to bring your family when they come to visit. A place that anyone can feel comfortable in, and that our community can be proud of.
