Sarge Tovar is the sweetest, most handsome basset you'll ever meet. This guy will steal your heart with just one look and became an instant favorite with his Taurus family.
About 2 weeks ago, Sarge was diagnosed with bloat - a life-threatening condition that requires immediate veterinary care known as gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV), gastric torsion and twisted stomach. This condition can cause rapid clinical signs and death in several hours. Even with immediate treatment, approximately 25% to 40% of dogs die from this medical emergency.
When bloat occurs, the dog’s stomach fills with air, fluid and/or food. The enlarged stomach puts pressure on other organs, can cause difficulty breathing, and eventually may decrease blood supply to a dog’s vital organs.
Thankfully, the people who were watching Sarge at the time this happened, knew something was wrong, acted fast and got him to the ER as quickly as possible. Because of this, the vet was able to see Sarge and perform the necessary surgery in time to save Sarge's life. It was a very scary few hours, but we are all so very thankful that Sarge survived and is now on the mend.
We all know that vet visits aren't cheap, and with a surgery like this, it's going to take a while to pay off the bill. The surgery alone cost over $3,000. Sarge's human dad, Andrew, is equally as awesome as Sarge, and will do (and HAS done) anything and everything for his pets. He recently paid for surgery for another one of his dogs, Buddy, and just when things seemed to be getting back on track financially, Sarge became ill.
We love Andrew & Sarge, they are like family to us at Taurus, and family always looks out for one another and helps in any way that they can. So that's why we started this gofundme page - to help out our buddies Andrew and Sarge with these medical expenses.
