In June of 2014 my wife was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and within three weeks I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy. By December my symptoms had progressed to the point that I was no longer able to drive. Additionally I was starting to sway while standing in place and my head was moving uncontrollably.
By November of 2015, my symptoms had progressed to the point that I could no longer work. I was forced to quit my job and start the long journey for disability. In January of 2016 my family had to change insurance as we could no longer afford it so we switched to BadgerCare. Because of this switch to this day I still am not able to get on all the medications that I need to treat my narcolepsy.
Since my narcolepsy diagnosis I have also been diagnosed with Cervical Dystonia and potentially Axial Dystonia. Both are incurable but Cervical Dystonia is treatable. I will actually be receiving treatment later this month. Unfortunately if my swaying while standing is Axial Dystonia there is not much treatment help. It is possible that moving forward I will always have to be very careful while standing in place for fear of falling.
As of today my initial filing for disability has been denied and I am in the first appeal process. All of the money that my family had saved is practically gone and we will not be able to pay our August bills. On top of that all of the additional stress is exasperating my wife’s MS and she is starting to have intermittent extreme fatigue.
Currently neither of us are able to work, our store of money is gone, and our future is very uncertain. Because of these things we are asking for any support that you can provide. We do not want to have to move our children out of the only home that they have known. We are currently trying to raise enough money for three months worth of bills. Our hope is we will get a yes on my disability appeal.
