Bob Rudner Survival Fund

A series of hospitalizations, bad breaks and the bureaucratic bungling of a number of agencies has wiped out Bob Rudners finances. Post Polio Disorder--the result of having polio as a young child--is rapidly weakening his arm and leg. He needs a leg brace but will soon need a wheelchair. And now he finds he needs heart valve surgery.

He needs 6 months funding of his rent and bills to get situated on Social Security, pack up his vast collections of memorabilia of 45 years of political struggles and his killer collection of books, and recoup from surgery, before he can move into subsidized and accessible housing.

An activist since he was a teenager, he was raised in the Civil Rights, Anti-War, Disability Rights, and Environmental Movements.  In the 1980s he co-founded the Chicago Greens, worked to reintroduce from grassroots Earth Day observances in Chicago, and combined Social Justice and Ecology work. He was central to the Anti-Nuclear Power and Weapons Movement, and wrote on Radiation Victims Rights, organizing with Atomic Veterans. Most of all, he was
a co-editor, illustrator, and co-publisher of the Chicago Green Calendar from 1987 to 2003.  He was a winner of the Nelson Algren Award which goes to artists and activists who have made outstanding contributions to Chicago's Progressive community.

As a writer, he has chronicled the history of such movements as Disability Rights and the Anti-Nuclear causes, for which he has also been arrested in non-violent civil disobedient direct actions. He had
championed the cause of Urban Agriculture and architecture for ecology expounded by the late architect Paolo Soleri, while struggling to
preserve Maxwell Street and affordable accessible habitat.

He is now in need of our help!  Please contribute what you can.  Even a few bucks will help.
