Bruin's Cancer Treatment Fund

2012 was an eventful and amazing year for Alexa and Chris. They bought a house, got married and added a beautiful golden retriever puppy to their family. Their lives were just beginning. Bruin AKA Ray was born july 7,2012 the third litter from the beloved Luke (owner-Chan and Dee Rudd) and the late Brookiana (owner-Carolyn Zagami). Chris and Alexa instantly felt a connection when they met bruin at only being a few weeks old.

Not long after, Chris and Alexa brought home their handsome golden boy in September and their house now felt like a home. Bruin has been apart of every huge milestone in their lives from their wedding and to welcoming their first born daughter Aubrey. Bruin has always been their especially during Alexa’s difficult pregnancy and being on bed rest.

Bruin instantly took on a new role when his sister came home from the hospital, he became the protective big brother for Aubrey. Bruin would wake up and check on on Aubrey every time she cried, he never wanted her to be upset. Aubrey’s first best friend was a 70 lb cuddly golden boy.

It has been a joy watching Aubrey grow up with Bruin and having him by her side through her first year.

Since golden retrievers are prone to cancer, Alexa and Chris decided to enroll Bruin at 2 years old in the Morris Golden retriever lifetime study. This was very close to their heart since Bruins mother passed of Hemangioscarcoma. This study has enrolled 3,000 golden retrievers across the country in hopes of finding a cause for canine cancers and hopefully a cure someday. The study aims at following the entire life of the dog along with annual bloodwork. Bruin is hero #1635 in the study and now Bruin is the one that needs heroes to help him. At just 3 years old, bruin has succumbed to the horrible disease that Bruin’s family has tried so hard to fight against…cancer.

Bruin was diagnosed with Lymphoma in August 2015. Lymphoma is a cancer that originates in the lymphocyte cells of the immune system and unfortunately is very common among dogs…especially golden retrievers. Lymphoma is treatable with chemotherapy but is not curable. Without treatment dogs usually pass within a couple months.

Bruin is seeing an oncologist at NEVOG in Massachusetts and Chemotherapy is costly. Alexa and Chris know that Bruin will never be able to live a long life and die from old age but want to give bruin the best quality of life that he can have and hopefully watch his sister grow. Alexa and Chris are seeking financial assistance with Bruins treatment and would greatly appreciate any help they can get to prolong their beautiful boy’s life. Anything exceeding their goal will be donated to the Morris Golden retriever lifetime study and hopefully we can find a cause and cure to canine cancers.
