Double Diamond
Wildfire Recovery
On May 11, 2014, a fire that seemed unstoppable broke out in Fritch, Texas. Nine days later, the Double Diamond Wildfire had incinerated 225 homes and scorched 2,000 acres of land. Hundreds of families, like the Mattizza’s, were left to face rebuilding their town from ashes. The United Methodist Church (UMC) has determined to stand beside them, and First UMC Canadian has already given $100,000 in a challenge to encourage other churches to support their neighbors in Fritch. Will you accept the challenge? Our neighbors, the Mattizza’s, have hope for their new house, but there is much left to do in Fritch. Many people are still living in storage buildings, small trailers, and even with relatives. In the fall, there will be a need for individuals experienced in framing and drywall installation to move the Mattizza house forward.
They are not the only ones who need help, however, so if you want to help rebuild a community,
contact the Amarillo District, Disaster Relief Coordinator, David Gerhardt.
