Help us as we become a family of 5

There are no fairy tale endings in foster care, just families that work very hard and the villages that rise up around them, offering kindness, compassion and support in a variety of ways.

If you've followed our journey as foster parents, you know that we are a two-mom family who lives in the Unites States, and that we blog anonymously about issues related to same-sex parenting, foster care and transracial adoption. We keep it private to protect our kids and our family, and to continue sharing openly. We continue to write about our experiences as we've come to love our community and the ways you privately and publicly encourage us.

If you've come to know our story you know that we adopted two little boys transracially after moving in wiht us through foster care, our boys have an older sister and an older brother and sister close in age. You also know that we fostered their older siblings with the goal of launching them to forever families of their own, which we believed would serve them best, as we knew we would not be able to offer permanency for all 4 kiddos given their individual needs.

Late last year, their biggest brother was matched with a preadoptive family and is doing well. We're looking forward to celebrating his adoption day soon!

And several months back, our biggest kiddo, the boys' Big Sister, was matched with a preadoptive family and we were so hopeful. After a few weeks of being in their home, the preadoptive parents decided this was not the right journey for them, they changed their minds, and the adoption disrupted. There was nowhere for Big Sis to go, and no other families in line, so she was living in a homeless shelter for kids during the past two weeks.

So we are adopting her. After much discussion between the two of us, along with reaching out to our support system, we made the right choice for us, for her, for all the kids.  She is home with us, forever this time.  No more moves, we are the forever family we've been waiting for.

As I write this, she is blissfully asleep after an evening reuniting with her brothers, doing laps on the slip n slide, eating all the ice cream and reading books in bed all together. We are both so at peace having her here. It feels like coming home. This is the right path for us as a couple and for our precious family of 5.

We have a marathon ahead of us. As we plan short and long term, we need some help in the immediate future.

And here is where the huge community ask comes in. Bringing a third kiddo into our home is a big financial challenge for us. The need for specialized services for all our kiddos requires moving to another city to be sure everyone gets what they need. Moving to a more diverse city with excellent public school services is our #1 goal in the coming year.

Such a move requires:
1) Updates to our current home so we can sell it
2) Covering the cost of moving expenses
3) Saving for a down payment on a new home
4) We will also need to address a host of tuition and specialized support services for all three of our kiddos

There are all kinds of ways to offer support and the moral support, kindness and the love are the most encouraging and sustaining ones.  And then there is always the option for financial support.  So we've left this here.

If you wish to offer support in the form of giving, we'd be so grateful.  If you'd rather offer love in the form of a message or power thoughts, we'd be so grateful!

Families that move forward out of love, sometimes need communities to walk alongside them. So if you feel moved, and you're able now, we'd love if you helped us all walk forward together.
