Footprints March for the NHS

Please join us on our march to save NHS services in Durham, Teesside and North Yorkshire from the 22nd- 29th October
Documents we have seen show that at least 2 or 3 of our local A&E departments (North Durham, Darlington, North Tees, James Cook, Friarage) will close. Service commissioners have admitted that the effect on our hospitals could be so severe that only James Cook would keep it's A&E department.
The closure of one of County Durham and Darlington Trust's maternity units has been proposed.
Under the new Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STP), the NHS in England has been divided into 44 ‘Footprints’ which must cut and close services in order to access 'transformation funds'. Essentially, this is a bribe to implement cuts to our already struggling health service.
We are hugely opposed to these closures which will put lives at risk and so we are marching between hospitals in Northallerton, Darlington, Bishop Auckland, Shotley Bridge, Durham, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and North Tees in order to show just how large our footprint is and how dangerously isolated we will become as a result of these savage cuts.
Everywhere we go, we will spread the word about what is happening and what people can do to stop it. But we need your help.
This is an ambitious plan, but one of our lead organisers was also and organiser for the People's March for the NHS from Jarrow to London, so we believe we can do this! - but we need funding.
We need funds to pay for the following:
The two biggest expenses will be:
Coach hire to transport people across sections that are not safe to walk, and a minibus to pick up anyone at any point who gets into difficulties
Insurance
These will cost hundreds of pounds and are essential to a safe and well-organised march
Posters and flyers to advertise the march
Campaign materials so we can tell people everywhere we go how to stop these closures
Room hire for rallies - some venues are free, others charge
Transport of luggage
Banners
Accommodation (most of this will be free and in communal halls, but we expect a couple of stops to incur an expense)
Travel expenses for speakers - over 8 nights this adds up!
We have been offered free entertainment acts (singers/bands/comedians) for most nights to hold a fundraising social after the rally. Entertainments after rallies will really help us to get more people through the door to hear our message and to raise funds for future campaigning - but we'll need to pay their petrol money, which is not a lot, but over 7 nights, it adds up
We are more than happy to accept donations in kind - if you own a coach hire company or printing business that can provide services, we'd be very grateful and we will adjust the fundraising goal down accordingly. What matters is that we make the march happen!
This march is only the beginning! Having brought people in our 'Footprint' together, we will continue the fight for our local hospitals and NHS services and every penny you give us will help us to continue that fight after the march is over. We will also help people in other 'Footprints' to fight for their services too.
We need to raise £2,500 in the next four weeks to make this happen - so please, give us your support. Nye Bevan, founder of the NHS, said that 'the NHS will last as long as there are folk with the faith to fight for it'. So let's fight for it - not only for us, but for the generations to come.
