Kidney for Jason

Donation protected
His nickname is Phoenix because time after time this man has survived, thrived and helped many other people.

At age three Jason was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Like a phoenix, he rose. With help from his family, especially his mom Rene, Jason managed the disease and lived a fairly normal life.

In 2005 complications arising from an allergic reaction sent him into a coma. Doctors told Rene that he wouldn't survive. Like a phoenix, he rose.

He went to work for Horizons Specialized Services and provided care to adults with special needs for thirteen years. He purchased his home more than 10 years ago.

In 2015, Rene stopped by Jason's home to find him unconscious. His blood pressure was off the charts and the blood vessels in his eyes burst leading to blindness, his kidneys weren't in great shape. Jason was in trouble.

Like a phoenix, he is rising, but Jason needs help. He needs some wind beneath his wings.

He needs a kidney and his mom, Rene, has volunteered to donate hers.

Jason and Rene live in a rural part of Colorado. For more than two years they've traveled twice a month, sometimes weekly, across two mountain passes, over 250 miles each way, to see his specialist doctors in Denver.

For a time Jason's work paid for medical leave. The first six months Rene paid Jason's mortgage. They've worked hard and managed to keep Jason in his home.

Rene was in Denver again on Friday for four hours of testing to see if she'll qualify as a donor.

Once the transplant is completed doctors think that Jason will be able to go back to work at least parttime and he can't wait.

But bills are mounting up as his resources dwindle. Without help, Jason may lose his home.

Rene is also putting everything on the line for her son, using all her paid time off. It only covers a portion of the time needed for doctors visits and not the month she'll have to spend in Denver during the procedure.

She's hoping somehow she can cover both their expenses even though she knows the money won't stretch.

Would you join me in supporting this mother as she helps her son?

$10,000 would help them cover the gap during surgeries, but $100,000 would allow Jason to pay off his mortgage and cover his mom's expenses for the surgeries.
