Flexible Seating for Room 110

Hello, readers. My name is Allison Giomundo. I currently work at Buffalo United Charter School as a fifth grade teacher. It has been brought to my attention that flexible seating is a great alternative for standard desks. Why flexible seating? I am interested in bringing flexible seating to my classroom for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, studies have proven that when students are given choice in what kind of learning environment works best for them, their test scores, social skills, cooperative learning, and engagement in critical thinking situations all increased. Flexible seating has a wide range of options for a fifth grade classroom; it also has a positive effect on the student’s health and general well being. Different seating arrangements, such as standing desks and stability balls are proven to lower student blood pressure while allowing them to move around and burn calories while they learn! The different seating options that would be realistic and beneficial to my classroom would be standing desks, stability balls, wobble chairs, bean bag chairs, and fitness stability air cushions for a floor table. I am looking for donations to help develop my classroom into a more comfortable and learning enriched environment where my students will have a choice to pick what seating arrangement works best for them. You probably remember having a hard time sitting for an eight hour school day when you were in elementary school. With flexible seating my students will be more engaged, energized, and ready to learn.
