Sawyer the Destroyer

Sawyer is a superhero.
Having had her first seizure when she was only four months old, she's been fighting ever since. We did not learn the name of Sawyer's archenemy until soon after her first birthday. After battling through two dozen seizures in the first several months of her life, Sawyer faced her greatest test a few weeks before her first birthday. She was wrestling with a seizure that would not let her get the upper hand. Where her normal seizures were tough, going on for 30+ minutes, this one seemed insurmountable. After fighting for 5 straight hours, doctors came to her rescue and placed Sawyer in a medically induced coma to stop the seizure and help her brain rest.
There is no doubt that while asleep, Sawyer was plotting her way to victory over her archenemy Dravet. When doctors woke her and gave her the new super serum, the seizure was quieted.
But, we all knew it would be back. So we armed Sawyer with the best medical team, a new medicine regimen, and our secret weapon...the Ketogenic Diet. With all of this in place we hoped to beat Dravet, which doctors predicted would cause dozens of daily seizures, developmental delays, physical limitations and even possibly death.
Sawyer has fought an admirable battle, having been knocked down several times, but always getting up with a grin on her face and determination in her heart. We have discovered that like Superman's Kyrptonite, Sawyer has a weakness too...high temperatures. Whether it is a fever from illness, or just getting overheated from playing outdoors, Sawyer is extremely susceptible to seizures caused by her body temperature not regulating. She really is too hot :)
As Sawyer grows up, she loves to be outdoors running around, and that is where the Villian Dravet is most likely to catch her now. But she is stronger than any of us predicted. She runs, with her own unique style, but she runs. She doesn't talk a lot, but manages to get her point across. She fights harder than anyone I know.
We have absolutely no doubt in her ability to beat Dravet, if we can give her the right tools for the battle. We have amassed significant medical bills to keep Sawyer healthy, happy and able to continue on her path. We are seeking out new and innovative treatments for her disease so that Sawyer can do more than survive her diagnosis. We want her to live, in the fullest meaning of the word. Please help us, and Sawyer, win this battle.
