Fatty's Medical Fund

Meet Fatty, one of the original stars of purrcast . He has been with Justin since the day he was born, and earned his name by being the first and plumpest kitten in the litter. Fatty tossed his loyalty to Justin aside when he met Amy; one look and he was infatuated, and he has the title of "cat boyfriend". He has a lot of love to share, though, and once he's done pretending to be shy he'll flop on the floor for belly rubs. Fatty is a natural for purrcast as he even purrs at the vets, though the exam, shots,  and even blood draws!

Speaking of the vet, in 2013 Fatty was diagnosed with Feline Vaccine Associated Sarcoma  (an aggressive,  cancerous tumor) on his back right leg. He was treated at the Belvedere Veterinary Center in Baltimore City, and bounced right back from his surgery, though now with a "skinny leg". Paws have been crossed that, after 18 months, he had cancer beat.

Unfortunately a few weeks ago Justin noticed a much smaller lump on the same leg. The vet said that yes, it looks like they were not able to get all of the tumor in the previous surgery, but that with a full leg amputation Fatty should make a full recovery with no recurrence. Thankfully cats handle leg amputations extremely well, and Justin and Amy can turn to their BARCS  fostering family community for advice about to help a three-legged cat adapt and thrive.

How is Fatty handling his diagnosis? He's currently in good spirits and great health, and just had blood work, x-rays, and an ultrasound to make sure there are no lurking health issues. His winter schedule includes cuddling with his friend Wilma, daily bouts of laser chasing, and bugging Justin and Amy for meals. With surgery he has an excellent prognosis and should be a part of the purrcast family for years to come.

Of course all of this health care comes at a steep price. As of yet the cats have not offered to go out and get a job, so we're turning to our friends, family, and fans of purrcast (and Fatty!) to ask for help defraying the cost of his medical treatment. Any amount is greatly appreciated, and any money raised beyond Fatty's fund will be set aside for his friend Wilma (Justin and Amy's BARCS foster cat who, considered unadoptable when she was diagnosed with an oral tumor, was welcomed into the fold permanently a year ago and who has thankfully no disease progression so far).

With many thanks and lots of purrs!
