Farmer's Pantry Market

Help us bring locally sourced food to your kitchen!!

As the future owners of the Farmer’s Pantry, our small hobby farm has awakened us to the need for a retail space for natural, locally-sourced food in the community.  Recently, the last remaining supermarket in our downtown area closed, creating a "food desert" for a large segment of the community.

Our goal is to open a small market in the Book Stop building on 16th, to bring fresh, healthy and affordable food to the Greeley community.   This would give customers access to farmers market type produce 7 days a week.

From the farmer to your table!!

Our vision is to:

·        Provide high quality, safer, organic when possible, locally produced foods (farm fresh eggs, meat and vegetables) as well as local nonfood products.

·        Serve as a distribution hub for local Community Supported Agriculture producers (CSAs), building a relationship between the area farmers and the community.

·        Due to the seasonal limitations for acquiring local produce, Farmers Pantry will also contract with food distributors bringing in fresh produce and products on a year-round basis. These will include basic necessities, baked goods, meats, nonperishables and local dairy products.

·        Accept SNAP benefits.

·        Provide a space for community education about sustainable agricultural practices and food preservation.

A significant contributing factor in the nation’s obesity epidemic and accompanying health problems can be traced to the lack of affordable fresh and healthy food options, particularly in urban food deserts. Greeley’s close proximity of many farms affords a unique opportunity to fill this void.  By taking a multi-faceted approach, the owners believe they can provide a boost to area small producers, while providing valuable commodities to the community.

For locally-sourced produce the market has contacted several northern Colorado farms; Blue Bench Farms (Windsor), Eden Valley (Loveland), D & H Farms (Ault), Dottie’s Garden (Berthoud), Grant Farms (Wellington), Fossil Creek Farms (Ft. Collins), Monroe Farms (Kersey).  Relationships will continue to be built through networking with the Northern Colorado Food Cluster adding additional suppliers.  We will bring in LoCo Foods of Fort Collins.  Their products include perishable short life and long life locally processed products that will be featured in the market.

A little about the owners:

Todd Doleshall and Glen Cook, after a combined 45 years of experience in the field of education have decided to return to their agricultural roots.   Glen was raised on a dairy farm and beef ranch in western Nebraska, while Todd’s family farm was located outside Sterling, CO.   In 2004, they purchased a small acreage east of Eaton, CO with the initial goal of instilling in their two adopted boys the old-fashioned values system they had gained from their own rural upbringing.  In the process of teaching sustainable living through organic gardening, poultry production and goat dairy farming, they discovered they were producing more food than they could use, with no outlet for distribution beyond their own friends and family.  Their 16 year relationship has grown and enabled them to build their small goat diary business.  They sell handmade goat’s milk soap and lotion at craft shows, festivals and fairs as well as herd shares for goat milk, and artisanal goat’s milk cheese.
