Epilepsy Research/D.A.D

Donation protected
Disability Assistance Dogs is a charity based in Northern Ireland. It was formed with the following two purposes in mind:

1)To provide training to people, resident in Northern Ireland, who have certain disabilities and who are dog owners, to develop the potential of their dogs to assist them with their disability. The disabilities catered for include the following: Epilepsy, Diabetes, Nut Allergy and Wheelchair Users

2) To conduct research for a PhD at Queen's University which will search for evidence of the innate response of some family pet dogs to epileptic seizure onset. Additionally, determine the bio-markers which trigger the alerting response in dogs with a view to assisting in the development of a wearable alerting device.

Neil Powell, our senior dog trainer, is conducting this research in conjunction with Queens University Belfast.  This research has the potential to improve the lifes of people from all around the world if a wearable device can be designed to alert people about oncoming seizures.
Any donations to Disability Assistance Dogs will go directly to help pay the University fees as well as helping to pay for dog coats, dog training equipment etc.
We have been overwhelmed by the response form around the world to our little charity in Northern Ireland. We would like to thank you for all the support and hope you will continue to follow our charity and Neil's study.
