On The Street In 30 Days

Donation protected
My mother and I have been renting a duplex in New Ulm, MN during her internship at a local lutheran church.  We had very, very little money left after the internship and had a talk with our landlord about our financial situation.  We were told not to worry about it, that they wouldn't kick us out and we could pay what we had.

Last night we were told that we had 30 days to leave the rental because our landlord has an old buddy who wants to move in.  We were warned about this friend, but we were also told by the landlord that we had until May before it would become a problem.  We didn't even need that long, my mother will be getting placed in a permanent church somewhere around December or January.

We need to move up to the Twin Cities because there is no available housing or homeless shelters in this area.  I have just started a job at Target and if we move I will be forced to quit as I will not be able to fulfill the 90 day period required before being allowed to transfer to a diferent store.  My job is our last source of income right now and it is being taken from us by this eviction.

If we had been warned earlier, or it had been made clear that we would not be allowed to stay as long as we were told, we could have made preparations for this earlier and perhaps both found jobs in the city ahead of time to help pay for moving.  Instead I took a job down here, and all of my mother's prospective jobs have been in this area.  Unfortunately none of her jobs have panned out and she is still looking for work.

The ELCA has done nothing to help us and we will not have a guarenteed income, as I said, until possibly after December or January.

We need money for rent, food, gas, and to pay for the actual move up to somewhere in the city.  I'm currently going to college and using my student loans to pay for what we can but we won't be able to survive for more than a month on them, even if I can find work.

My mother has suffered through childhood abuse that has affected her her entire life.  10 years ago she began going to therapy and set her life along a path dedicated to helping others through mission work.  Eventually she decided she wanted to become an ordained luterhan pastor through Luthor Ceminary. Today she has come so far in her struggle to escape the trauma of her childhood, however we do have a therapy dog to help her with her with anxiety and depression, which complicates finding a place to live.

We've figured the minimum amount of money we will need to get through the end of the year is around $8,000, but anything we can get will help.
