Keep the Agape House Doors Open!

The Adams Rescue Mission is embarking on a massive campaign to keep the doors of our shelter open!  

By the end of August, perhaps 6-10 families will be asked to leave the Agape House, a family shelter program for women, children, and families.  

In the 42 years since the ARM was founded, the nonprofit, nondenominational Christian ministry in Gettysburg has served thousands of people.  The Men's shelter, housing 32 men each night, has provided over 10,000 nights shelter in Adams County last year alone!  Since the Agape House family shelter opened in 1996, it has been home to families facing the devastation of a house fire, domestic abuse situations, and the recovery of drug and alcohol addictions.  In the last 19 years of operation, over 200 families have called the Agape House Shelter their home, including 550 children.  Families have made the transition from homelessness and financial hardship to employment and permanent housing.  

The Adams Rescue Mission must now make some important decisions about he future of some of its most important services, those for women, children, and families.  We cannot continue to provide the same services to Gettysburg and Adams County without a significant increase in finances.  

The ARM receives no government funding for operational expenses.  We rely on our recycling department and thrift store to generate approximatley 70% of the funding needed, and we rely on donations from individuals, businesses, churches, and grants to provide the additional 30%.  

This campaign, with the goal of raising $500,000 by the end of September, will put the Mission back in the 'black', and pay off the majority of the Agape House.  Donations in any amount go a long way to help the homeless in Adams County.
