My son Lucas James was born with Taussig Bing Anomaly, coarctation and hypoplastic aortic arch and Transposition of the great arteries amongst other complications. A rare combination of congenital heart disease. He is one of 8 babies born everyday in Australia with some type of congenital heart disease. Sadly, around 4 babies leave us every week.
Lucas was a fighter from the start and today he is a healthy 8 month old baby and his twin sister Aliyah keeps him on his toes. We were blessed to have the support of HeartKids Australia, The Heart Centre for Children (Westmead), Ronald McDonald House (Westmead) and Westmead Children’s Hospital before, during and after the birth of Lucas. The staff and volunteers were simply amazing. Being away from home, they gave us hope and strength every step of the way.
To give back to these amazing organisations and fund the research that give so many babies a fighting chance, me and my team (made up of parents with HeartKids, Clicksters, Family and Friends) together with my employer Clicks IT Recruitment (who have been extremely supportive from day 1), Bunnings (Canberra Airport) and HeartKids we will be holding a sausage sizzle on Sunday 17th February 2019 at Bunnings Canberra Airport (971 Majura Rd, Majura Park ACT 2609) from 9am onwards. All proceeds and donations on the day and the go fund me page will go towards the continued research that HeartKids do as well as Ronald McDonald House Westmead who help thousands of families from interstate every year with accommodation while their young ones are getting treatment and the Heart Centre for Children at Westmead Hospital.
If you are in Canberra and have sometime please drop by and say hi. If you can’t attend any donation will be much appreciated, no amount is too small. Lucas and Aliyah will be making a guest appearance at some stage. Thanks everyone and I look forward to seeing you then! Peace and love to all!
