YOLO Transient Debris collection
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jesse. I'm a council member on the Yolo County Multi-Cultural Community Council with many years lived experience as a homeless addict. I now have over 9 years clean, sober and housed.
I'm a fuel tanker truck driver by trade however I'm out of work for at least another month with an injury. I thought a neat way to give back to my community will be to utilize my pickup truck and collect garbage from some of our homeless dwellings in Davis California where I was homeless 2010-2014.
Some of the initial funds raised will go to scouting camps, connecting with occupants and purchasing a large cart and tarp. Initial camps in mind are along bike path parallel to 2nd street, Union Pacific train tracks, I-80 and F Street along California Northern train tracks.
If this movement catches some momentum I will start off under the following guidelines, open to feedback from donors of course.
I will not collect garbage from camps unless the occupants are present in order to prevent collection of their personal belongings.
I will bring shopping carts to the assigned retailers and bike parts to the Davis Bike Collective.
I will utilize a cart and pay the occupants in gift cards to help load my truck in order to prevent further agitation of my injury.
I will start a FB group for donors to share pictures of loads collected as well as documentation of receipts for fuel, fuel mileage, dump fees and gift cards.
*if any changes are made to comply with local rules and regulations I will add edit below this line.
