Tom and Mary's Recovery Fund

Hi! I'm Scott, my Mom and Step-Father recently lost their house in a fire that also burned down two of their neighbors' homes as well. I'd like to raise money to help them get through this time while they rebuild and try to replace the material things they lost.

Here is what the news has to say about the fire right now: SEATTLE -- A large fire tore through three West Seattle homes Thursday afternoon, sending thick plumes of black smoke above the neighborhood

The two-alarm fire was reported sometime after 4 p.m. at several homes in the 6700 block of 46th Avenue SW.

Residents in all of the homes were able to escape the blaze and there are no reported injuries, though several pets are unaccounted for, according to Kyle Moore with the Seattle Fire Department.

Mary Bell [My mother] lost her 100-year-old home in the fire. Bell said she was in her office when the fire started.

"I was just in my office at my computer and I heard some crackling," she said.

She looked outside, saw smoke pouring out of her neighbor's home and decided to grab her dogs and leave.

"And by that time my neighbor was at the door saying get out of your house," she said.

Neighbor Rich Albers spotted the fire from his house and immediately called 911 while he ran to the homes to see if he could help.

"One woman was pretty frantic about her dog being stuck in the house, but there was no way to go into the house at that point," Albers said.

Dozens of Seattle firefighters soon arrived at the blaze and began working to contain it. Huge portions of one of the homes collapsed as the fire destroyed its structural integrity, but firefighters were at a safe distance and weren't hit with any debris.

Moore said crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to surrounding homes.

"We were able to make what we call an interior attack. We went inside that third house and were able to save a good portion of it. The first house and the second house are total losses," Moore said.

Another neighbor who watched the houses burn said her thoughts are now with the homeowners who will be displaced.

"I've never seen anything like this in our neighborhood and I'm really concerned about my neighbors' houses and the kind of trauma that they're going to be going through," she said.

Andy Ryan with Seattle Public Utilities said firefighters called his department to say there was a problem with the water supply near the house. Ryan said a crew chief from SPU was on the way to the fire to help solve the problem.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.

Thank you so much for your support! I know they will really appreciate it. Please, if you know them, try to keep this a secret from them. I'd like for it to be a surprise if possible.
