Russ Motykowski, 61, of Tinley Park is my next door neighbor. He has been battling cancer since 2017. He was a custodian at Riverside Dist 96 grammar school until last year. His wife Jeannie has been unable to work anymore as she is now Russels 24/7 caretaker.
Russ's first cancer was bladder cancer. They were able to burn and remove the cancer and he goes every 3 months for a check up. Beginning of next cancer was stage 4 about 11/8/17. Diagnosis and concurrent conditions : Adenocarcinoma of esophagus, metastatic to brain. 5/28/18, Russ had major surgery to remove the tumor and the esophagus. They were able to use the stomach tubes and make a new esophagus. After surgery he had dozens of wires and tubes attached to him. He wasn't able to eat or drink or walk anywhere without the help of a nurse. He had a feeding tube and he lost over 100 pounds. This was the worst surgery that I ever seen someone go through. Before the esophagus surgery Russ went through months of chemo and radiation to reduce the size of the tumor. Months later a huge brain tumor was found pushing his brain to the other side. He wasn't able to communicate with Jeannie and he was falling off the bed. When he walked a few steps and fell down and wasn't able to get up, so she called 911. She had him transported to a local hospital and an MRI showed a large tumor. They started steroids to reduce the swelling on the brain and transported him to another major hospital who had a specialist neurosurgeon. He had surgery 12/31/18.
They also found 2 smaller brain tumors and he is ongoing through radiation to the brain is showing the tumors have been reduced. He is going through chemo to reduce lymphoma. Russ can not work anymore. Subjective symptoms : nausea /vomiting, weakness, dizziness, lack of appetite, trouble getting around use of wheelchair and walker. Light headedness. Side effects from chemo treatments and brain cancer. Russ' short-term disability ran out 6/28/2019 and he must apply for Social Security disability 7/1/2019. Fell behind in mortgage, 2nd mortgage, hospital and medical bills, electric bill, gas water bill, prescription bills, auto insurance bill, village bill, garbage bill, phone, Internet bill, cable TV bill. Russ is unable to work and wife is caregiver for Russ. It has been real difficult watching this family spiral downward. If you are unable to donate to this family PLEASE share so that others may. Thank you everyone!
