Glos Echo John Jukes Appeal

John Jukes was looking forward to a holiday to remember.

During a break in his treatment for leukaemia, John Jukes, 70, was planning to go to Greece with wife Eve, 58.

But his holiday has been cancelled after he was brutally attacked in broad daylight in Cheltenhmam town centre, and robbed of the money he had saved to enjoy his time away.

The retired engineer was battered across the face, leaving him with five fractures to his skull and 3,000 euros the poorer.

The attack happened on Tuesday afternoon at around 3.30pm in the alleyway next to the Two Pigs pub.

Mr Jukes, a father of two, of Evesham Road, Cheltenham, was left with injuries a doctor said he would only expect to see on a boxer.

The Gloucestershire Echo is launching an appeal to our readers to consider donating money to Mr Jukes, so that, when he is feeling better, he can still take his holiday.

£2,300 is our target, the equivalent of the money - at current exchange rates - that was ripped from his hands.

Echo editor Matt Holmes said: "Easter is a time when most people enjoy the end of Lent with lots of Easter eggs and a lovely Sunday roast.

"It would be fantastic if we could help to raise some money for Mr Jukes.

"It would be even better if someone who knows who carried out the attack, told the police."
